Passed on to me by non Labour voters in Anston, they make interesting reading.
No.1 The ‘A’ side reads ‘Labour victory against police cuts’. True but what this has to do with the local elections in Anston and Woodsetts escapes me. The Labour party always confuses national politics with local politics and the local Labour party had no influence on the government’s U-turn. Next ‘a message from your new Labour councillor’. Which goes on to say “As we approach the festive season……………..” Pardon me? A bit late with that message Cllr. Taylor don’t you think? The word on the street is Cllr.Taylor will represent his home turf in Aston and not Anston in May. Never mind, let’s turn over the page. A photo of Cllr. Jo Burton alongside waffle about her ‘Reclaim the Night’ stunt in November 2015. https://anstonparishcouncilwatch.wordpress.com/2015/11/11/how-a-rotten-memory-helps-to-forget/
And finally…………News of another litter pick on Woodland Drive and how Everyone Had A Jolly Good Time Picking Up Other People’s Rubbish and Litter.
If this leaflet is an example of how the Labour party intends to attract support to fight the elections in May it’s rubbish. False claims about local Labour’s influence on national politics. An out of date message from a councillor who was elected only last year. A rehash of something that happened 4 months ago and an admission from the Labour party they prefer litter picking instead of hammering home the message of litter prevention.
The leaflet also fails to mention Jo Burton was deselected by the CLP to stand as a Borough councillor in 2016 and it looks like she’ll have to find a proper job, however with the stigma of being labelled ‘Not Fit for Purpose‘-with her Labour colleagues- in the Casey report it’s unlikely she’ll be allowed oversight of young people ever again.
A curious item at the bottom of the leaflet is a series of tick boxes asking people which party they voted for in 2015 and which party they will vote for in 2016. Is this information going to be used as part of a targeted polling exercise and for post election correlation? Is the Rotherham CLP registered as a data collector and how long will they hold the information for and for what purpose?
No.2 Cllr. David Roche (Hoober ward) delivering another Labour election leaflet in Anston. This raises questions of why a Hoober councillor is slogging round parts of Anston and whether the Labour party is really struggling to find enough footsoldiers to doorknock and deliver leaflets?
The ‘A’ side also claims Labour will ‘spend an extra £10 million on roads’. Hmmm. What is not mentioned is the Commissioners had to give authority for this money to be spent. Chris Reed just follows orders. The money the council will use is going to come from the planned capital programme of the council. This is money that can be used when it comes to funding infrastructure but not day to day services in Rotherham. This is not ‘new’ money as Labour would have you believe nor has it been conjured up out of nowhere and it will be spent over four years. Labour forgets to mention that part.
Overall these leaflets are a massive disappointment. No mentions of what procedures RMBC have put in place to stop a repeat of the CSE scandal, no mentions of how and where affordable homes will be built nor what the budget is to improve school buildings. Voters want more than sound bite propaganda.
