Independent controlled APC Freezes Precept.

Anston Parish Council has voted not to raise the parish precept (aka Anston Tax’) this financial year (2016/2017)

A stringent examination of the council’s accounts and identifying some savings means that unlike the previous Labour controlled parish council the Independent majority council has saved Anston residents money without any noticeable changes to parish life.
The Labour council agreed and budgeted for a 1.1% increase in the precept which is not surprising given their lack of financial controls and their willingness to make parishioners pay for any shortfalls in parish income.

Before the lefty keyboard warriors start protesting about ‘cuts’ let’s demolish a few silly rumours:
“The Bonfire night has been cancelled”. No it has not.
“The Hanging Flower Baskets have been cut” No they have not.
“Grants have been cut”. No they have not.
One other thing the Labour party supporters should bear in mind; Parish Council groundworkers have not had a decent pay rise during the last four years because Labour councillors tried to embellish and enhance the parish council accounts. So much for ‘Supporting the working class’.

RMBC Labour Cllr.Dominic Beck (aka ‘The Boy Blunder’) former Chairman of APC-and RMBC Labour Cllr.Jo Burton (Who ‘Knew nothing’ about the CSE scandal) both agreed-with ex Labour Cllr.Dalton-at an RMBC council meeting to cut £31,000 over the next three years from APC’s grant. Despite this attack on parish finances the Independent controlled APC have not decided to turn off all the street lights/sack staff/sell assets or enter a dodgy PFI deal to save money. What they have done is make sure Anston Parish Council lives within its means as all sensible people do.

On Monday 8th February it was discovered that one-or more-of the educationally sub-normal parasites who infest our community had driven a quad bike over the recreation ground (next to the Parish Hall) during the weekend and churned it up. The repairs and rectification to the ground and the football pitch will be paid for from parish funds and it is fortunate the money to do this is available but this mindless and moronic vandalism means your money will be spent bringing the recreation ground back into use for everyone’s benefit. Perhaps when decent CCTV is installed the parish hall and grounds will be less open to theft and vandalism.

Because APC Independent councillors have saved us all money this is not cause for sighs of relief.
RMBC is going to increase your Council Tax by 2% and stick another 2% on top of that to pay for increased spending on Social Care.

RMBC’s debt repayments are still £29 million per year.
How much Social Care would that pay for?

So there you have it, People posting on here under false names. Its not the first time Cllrs have tried to deceive the general public by giving false names on this blog. They have been identified and the names will be released at the appropriate time. As for “Stu” his posts have been done under my name “StuartThornton”, This has been done deliberately to deceive members of the Public, not very clever. I am now taking advice, and if this issue of impersonation is illegal I will be informing the police.

Explain why there are certain councilors who still want to sell of parish properties and stop services despite the 0% increase in precept

The Library, Rackford Meadows, hanging baskets, Crowgate playing field, bonfire fireworks, welfare ground security, assistance with village festivals. When all this money has not been spent we can all sleep soundly knowing we have a vault bursting with cash and no services for the people of Anston. Hopefully Ebenezer Scrooge could become vice-chairman and be more generous towards the community.

I wish you’d keep up to speed and get your facts right.
Labour councilors tried to sell the Library 4/5 years ago and since then it has not been offered for sale.
Rackford Meadows cannot be sold until 2033.Crowgate has never been on any agenda for sale, it belongs to RMBC and APC lease it.
Give us the link to the PC minutes where it was said the bonfire, fireworks, grounds security and hanging baskets were going to be cancelled.
Anston Festival day grant was cut by Labour councillors in the 2013/2014 budget and could not be overturned by the new council.

You are on your last chance to stop posting false and erroneous information and doom and gloom.
You post under a false name and can say nothing good at all about APC. It must be your perverse pleasure in life.

I made it quite clear that I thought that this years budget meetings were a shambles. Some Cllrs deliberately prevented other Cllrs from making proposals or having discussions in order that the budget could be cut further. But the biggest travesty was that the proposer to accept the budget and the seconder to accept the budget were Cllrs Ireland Sr and Jr. BOTH WHO HAD NOT ATTENDED THE BUDGET MEETING. So there you have it confirmed that its now a family affair to undermine the Council.
The budget meeting showed me quite clearly that the half of the Cllrs do not have a clue when it comes to Council Finances. Yet those few chose to over ride those trying to save Anston Taxpayers some hard earned cash.
The best part of all was that the majority of those who voted to accept a “level” budget actually voted for a 1.1% increase, because they did not understand what they were doing. One Cllr actually voted to accept the budget, yet could not say how much expenditure was going to be in that budget next year, he did not know what he was voting for,
    Blind leading the Blind.

You mention pay rises for the parish workers. Surely this is in line with the national conservative policy on public sector cost of living increase. The majority of government employees have only been given a 1% pay increase over the past six years.

The comments from ‘stu’ are typical of the negative posts on here and other forums. No mention of saving Anston residents money instead he/she bleats on about things that are based on wild rumours or conjecture.
Well done to all the councilors who agreed not to raise our parish precept and for ‘stu’s information the minutes of the last PC meeting are online. There is no mention of the things he/she complains about.
My advice to stu is grow a pair and stop whingeing. If you can’t ever say anything positive then stay quiet.

He was asked by a member of the public in 2013 why APC had bought greenbelt land and on the following Friday the Rotherham ‘Advertiser’ published an article about RM and John Ireland said (quote) ” I was quite perturbed when I found out it was greenbelt land”
I did not ‘agree’ with you about the cost of RM. I commented on the ongoing costs.
Now, can we get back to the subject of the precept because focusing on Crowgate/Hanging baskets and Rackford Meadows is starting to bore the pants off me.

It may be worthy of note that certain independent councillors want to abolish the hanging baskets and cut the playing field facilities for children in South Anston by half, scrapping the field off Crowgate. Not all is what it seems. The level headed decent councillors want to keep facilities not just slash them because they don’t like them.

“This is not a budget matter” You raised the subject of the budget.Make up your mind.
If you have been to APC meetings during the past 4 years or more the subjects of hanging baskets and Crowgate have often been on the agenda so don’t make up false stories about the new council suddenly deciding to include these as matters for discussion.

Read my comment again and you will see there is not any mention of the budget. When will you stop going on about the past? Concentrate on the present and future. I did not mention the whole council only the few ‘sham independent’ Ukip sympathisers, who have stated in recent meetings(03/02/16) that they do not want hanging baskets or the crowgate facility. There were not any alternatives given of how to enhance the village for the people of Anston. I look forward to any replies which totally misunderstand the point.

You wrote: “This is not a budget matter” So you did mention it.
This blog and this thread is not published just for you. You are quite happy with the actions of the previous council and seem fixated with Independent councillors who mentioned two-repeat two-items that might be considered as areas where savings could be made. You never uttered a word of protest when the purchase of Rackford Meadows was forced through without public consultation (Ask the residents of Rackford Road)
If you have nothing positive to say about APC then don’t write anything because if you carry on repeating the same old rubbish your account will be blocked.
You totally misunderstand the purpose of councillors who have had to clear up the financial mess left by your Labour buddies.

I do have positive thoughts about Anston Parish Council. In general they do an excellent job. It is good to see that majority rule does actually rule. APC provide excellent open spaces for the residents of Anston to enjoy. The village green(when cut to a practical length), Anston Stones Wood and the 32 acres of Rackford Meadows. All excellent areas. The cost of Rackford Meadows per year per resident is £1.34 approximately. Excellent value. Well done APC carry on the good work.

£254,000 for two dog walks? Even ex-Chairman John Ireland can’t explain why APC bought 32 acres of agricultural class land.
As for previous ex APC councillors who thought the phrase ‘To enhance the Stones’ sounded good as the (lame) excuse for buying RM:The Stones is a SSI therefore it is already enhanced. At no time in any of the discussions to buy RM was the word ‘enhance’ ever used and at the present time there is no possibility of the council or the residents being able to recoup a large portion of the cost of the yearly payments of £12,800.
      Payable until 2033.
We do have good open spaces-spoilt by mindless morons who drive quad bikes over some of them-and bear in mind over the next 10/15 years RMBC will be building on a lot of our greenbelt.
